Happy Pride Month

Pride has been celebrated around the world in June for decades. Thanks to queer activists who paved the way, a lot has happened since the Stonewall Uprising 52 years ago – from the decriminalization of sexual orientation and gender identity to the increasingly positive representation of the LGTBQIA+ community in popular media. However, there is still a long way to go to make life safe for all people and eliminate existing injustices. The annual Pride Month is a reminder to never tolerate exclusion and discrimination and to always stand up in solidarity for everyone. As ‘Pride’ already emphasizes, pride and love for ourselves and our fellow human beings should be strengthened and a future full of respect and acceptance should be striven for, naturally also outside of Pride Month. Leuphana University of Lüneburg promotes equality and equal treatment of all bisexual, lesbian, gay, queer, trans*, inter* and non-binary people and a reduction in discrimination and hostility.

“Leuphana University of Lüneburg is committed to the overall social goal of creating good learning, working and research conditions in the sense of a gender- and diversity-equitable and appreciative university culture. It is committed to liberality, equal treatment and respect at the university. The goal of emphasizing equality and inclusion, including with regard to gender diversity, is a high priority for the university. At Leuphana, everyone should be able to express their identity without having to fear negative reactions or discrimination.” Sasha Spoun, President of Leuphana University of Lüneburg

“The aim of the student body is to make the university space open, tolerant and diverse. There is still a long way to go to achieve this. We see the university as a safe space and, as the AStA, we want to continue to work hard to tackle existing problems. We want all people – regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity – to feel comfortable at our university!” QuARG and AStA of the University of Lüneburg

“Showing the flag for gender diversity and actively reducing discrimination are not only important during Pride Month, but are an everyday task and a shared responsibility of the university and civil society.” Equal Opportunities Office of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg
