HAStA la vista

Dear students,
After twelve months, our term of office as AStA spokespersons is coming to an end. The new collective was elected last Thursday and the new AStA will be constituted tomorrow. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank you. It has been a great pleasure to represent you.
Together with you, we were able to initiate many projects and ideas last year, continue some and complete others. Many cool events also took place. Thanks to everyone who was involved – it was only thanks to your commitment and participation that these things were possible!
Special thanks once again to all the speakers and members of the departments and our employees, without whom many things would have been impossible.
Here are the highlights of our legislative period once again:
- Our Freshers’ Speech and Alternative Start Week at the beginning of the winter semester 18/19 including our Freshers’ Party at Vamos! There were more than 1000 students at our party and also at our other events, such as the critical campus tours, there were many first-year students, but also older semesters.
- Our successful intervention against the university’s announcement that all participants in the “Science teaches understanding” module would have to write a mandatory and graded essay in addition to their term paper. We made it clear to the university that this was not in line with the RPO.
- After Spoun announced that he would “stand for re-election” as President of our university, we actively campaigned for the position to be re-advertised and for other people to be able to apply for this position. Unfortunately, despite a super well-attended plenary meeting and over 500 guests present at the university’s public consultation, Spoun was re-elected without re-advertising. If Spoun had announced beforehand that he was going to Göttingen after all, we could have saved ourselves a lot of work and trouble.
- Another highlight was the student election video. We used it not only online, but also in many lectures and events to promote a higher voter turnout.
- Less pleasant was the occasion of another important event, namely the planned changes to the framework examination regulations. On the one hand, we tried to campaign against the changes in the committees, but on the other hand, together with many other committed students, we also organized a colourful and diverse protest and tried out new ways, such as a student petition.
- As a highlight at the end of our term of office, we organized a summer open air with four bands, a DJ, food stalls etc. on the playing field. Almost 1000 people attended throughout the evening. We are already looking forward to the repeat next year!
In addition, there were many other topics such as the regular weekly AStA meetings, communication with the StuPa, our numerous discussions with our great service companies, regular exchanges with various representatives and employees of the university, but also from the city, networking with other student bodies in Lower Saxony and throughout Germany, the usual administrative stuff like answering e-mails and questions, doing accounts and so on….
It was an incredibly intense but also great time, sometimes with lows but mostly with many highlights. We were able to learn an incredible amount and gain many experiences that we will remember for a long time. But now it’s time for a new collective with lots of new ideas and focuses. We wish Anna, Daryoush, Lisa and Adrian a great term of office and will be happy to continue supporting them actively if they wish.
Thank you!
Julius, Katha, Lena and Merten
