Call for Applications for the Coming Semester

Last updated 8. August 2025 | Alternative Lehre

Dear students! Autonomous Teaching is the place for autonomous and critical education! Here you have the opportunity to design and experience teaching yourself, thereby educating yourself and others. Autonomous Teaching will take place again in the coming semester – apply here with your teaching concepts.

Why autonomous teaching?

Autonomous courses are designed to give students the opportunity to explore topics in greater depth that may not currently be covered sufficiently in teaching or that should be viewed from a perspective that is not found in mainstream university education. Autonomous teaching is a framework organised by the AStA in which students of all subjects can take control of their own education. The aim is to enable critical self-education, thus giving students the opportunity for autonomous teaching and learning. Away from performance constraints and exam pressure, marginal but no less important perspectives that have no place in regular teaching can also be given attention here.

Autonomous teaching is taking place for the twentieth time this semester, and experience from previous semesters has shown that it is precisely the seminars and events here that enable a sustained engagement with theory and from which the most can be gained.
Through equal discussion between the teacher and the participants, everyone involved can broaden their perspective and gain new insights. The absence of any coercion or pressure makes it possible to experience education that is purely interest-driven. Let’s take our education into our own hands and become proactive and creative!

We are looking for YOU!

We are now looking for committed students who would like to give independent courses on exciting and current topics. You decide on the form of the course, whether it is offered alone or with others, how often it should take place, and the format.

In order to offer an alternative to the often hectic teaching environment and to create an opportunity to learn and discuss content collaboratively and on an equal footing, we would like to establish a favourable framework and develop a diverse teaching programme. We will take care of the organisational work for rooms, schedules, advertising the courses, etc. You will receive compensation for your time based on the current AStA hourly rate, which takes into account up to two teachers as well as preparation and follow-up time. We will also cover the costs of materials, so you can concentrate fully on your content!

So, submit your seminar proposal and promote critical engagement with relevant content at the university! The events can be offered by all students at the university, provided that the content concept is coherent. Simply fill out the form at the bottom of the page. The application deadline is 2 March, so your event can start in the second week of lectures.

Be creative, be critical, and apply with your concept!
